My dad is a big reason for my interest in computer science. His first computer was a BBC Micro, which we spent some time getting working again for a modern monitor this summer (via UHF, after his old CRT made a loud pop and then refused to turn on). I thought it would be fun to design him a small lego replica of the machine as a Christmas gift. Here are some photos of both the model and the real thing:

I designed this model over a couple of days using parts from my collection. It was digitised in Lego Studio 2.0 so that I could render out some instructions for it, which you can download here. There's a parts list at the end if somebody finds this and wants to recreate it!

A few notes: the Micro did not have a mouse (certainly not a wireless one), this is a nod to his second computer, an Archimedes. Also, the monitor would not sit on the BBC Micro; it would be too large. The size difference is pretty clear in the last photo. This is also a relic of the Archimides, which had a setup closer to a modern desktop: a computer (on which the monitor would sit), a keyboard, and mouse. Clearly I took some creative liberties, but I was happy with how it turned out and my dad liked it. Overall a succesful project!
